The impression I got several years ago, is that the DART rail line is suppose to run where the old tracks ran into Lavon. Now, can't answer if there is any truth to that or not...and who knows if I'll even be around when that happens.

DART cities pay additional tax to facilitate the service.  Surely Lavon has no need for DART, no?

I wouldn't think at this point. Anyway, I think the plan, if it ever comes into existence, would be far, far down the road, so I guess time will tell.

I have not looked through all of the information, but I so far, I have not seen anything on a rail line.  The old Cotten Belt right-of-way is still here and there is always the possibility that it will be opened back up.
As far as DART, it will be MANY years before they would even consider coming out here.  They are only 900 Million in the hole on their current project.  DART owns approxiamtely 90% of all the railroad right-of-ways in the DFW metroplex.  I know that they own the old Cotten Belt route that runs from Grapevine to Wylie, but from the last that I had heard, they never bought the branch coming from Wylie to Greenville (coming through Lavon).
Yes, any purchase made in a DART member city has extra taxes imposed on the purchase to fund DART.

That is one thing that we definately do not need here in town!

As a side note ...

There are updates to the Mobility Plan that are soon to be approved (I have no idea why it is stalled):
http://www.ccmpu.org/

One of the highlights is a bridge (just one) extending 1778 across Lake Lavon and into Allen ... and a future with hwy 78 widened to 6 lane divided ... um ... would that address Tex's drainage problem?  :-[

By the way, if your heading over to Rockwall on 205, there is now a sign on the left about where the bypass is going to be. Not sure how to explain where it is, but just look for sign on your left in an open field. It is before the first stoplight outside of Rockwall.

Well I thought they would just add a bridge where the other bridges already are.  According to that map it is going to be a couple big ones farther south.

Also on page 40, it shows that rail line I was talking about earlier...not light rail.

Interesting, it doesn't exactly explain what the NETEX Railroad alignment is. Six lane highway, I'll believe that when I see it! They'll really have to cut into people's property going through Wylie and Lavon in a couple of places. The future will be interesting, but I seriously doubt we'll see any of this any time soon. They'll devote all their money and resources to other places and we'll be last on the list.

Regarding the Rockwall bypass, the sign for the bypass is right before the house up on the hill that is all lit up at night.

Funny you should mention that.  Every time we pass by that sign I ask my wife what it says.  By the time she looks that way we are a quarter mile away.

That may explain why that guy fenced up that area closer to the "house" last year.

By the way, if the highway plans do get passed, our house will go up for sale. I need to keep an eye out on this situation as my property value will plummet, so I need to stay ahead of all this. A six lane highway through Lavon will be horrible for those that live nearby. While traffic is bad enough, typically when people realize it exists, traffic will get even worse, especially with large trucks.

And who wants a train behind their house??? DART may have been alright, but a train, forget it.

Here is some information about the RailRoad plans. Essentially, they want to start using the abandoned railway that ran through Lavon.

The last I heard the rail line between Wylie and Greenville was owned by NETEX - The Northeast Texas Rural Transportation District and their plan was to take it active again. Wonder if Hunt/Cheng ever mentioned that to the home builders?? Of course, my info is years old and may not be relevant anymore.

Blacklands Railroad, or the NETEX is based out of Sulphur Springs.  They are a short-line railroad that does transports between Sulphur Springs to Greenville for the most part now.  I know that they have been wanting to get easier access into the Wylie Rail Yard just off Hwy 78.

I would much rather have a regular train coming through myself rather than DART.  I worked for them for several years and I know first hand the problems that communities go through when they build a train station.
