Cell Phone Service
« on: May 11, 2007, 11:43:54 AM »
This post is for the benefit of anyone new in this area, and I welcome anyone to add to this thread with experiences with any providers.

Since living out here for numerous years, I started out with Sprint. Lets just say, it got to the point that every other call dropped and on many occasions it took several attempts to make a call. In addition, there were numerous occassions when I'd receive a call, but the phone would never ring (went to voice mail). Since then, I switched to T-Mobile and have no complaints. In addition, Sprint has many areas out here where there are dead spots on some of the local roads.

So, here it is, for this area, from experience:

Sprint - Service is poor and unreliable
T-Mobile - Service is good and reliable

I guess there is something to say about the type of phone you are using as well.  As soon as we got here our T-Mobile service was terrible.  At least a 90% dropped call rate.  Finally switched to Cingular (now AT&T) when the contract was up and have not had a single dropped call in over a year.

Wife has Cingular, I have Sprint (dont have a choice, work phone). Sprint is definitely the worst so far.

With Sprint, I've been told we are between towers which is causing the problem. However, being between towers is always good thing in the cell phone world, so I'm not sure what their support people were getting at. On a general note, I do believe there is RF interference out here. I have several devices that pick up television channel's audio which shouldn't be possible. I have certain spots in my house where the interference is worse then in other locations. This interference could definately be part of Sprints problem out here.

We have one posessed alarm clock too.  There is a random buzzing that comes out of it at all hours of the night.  Sounds like some kind of interference or radar or something like you are talking about.
