Okay.  Bear with me on this one because I'm just thinking out loud and might be totally off base, but I have to ask.
 
The city manager double dips as the Lavon marshal, right?  That's great.  Two part time jobs made into one full time (presumably) job.  He has a salary of $79,491.00 per year.  While that sounds like an AWFUL lot of money, the city manager's position also has an "administrative supervisor" that's paid $39,520.00 per year.  The marshal's position too has a "deputy" that's paid $41,330.00 per year (I've never once seen this "deputy" by the way).  Is it me or does $80,850.00 for two assistants and paying a guy $80K/yr to drive around in a white truck all day sounds like a massive waste of money?  Lavon is growing and tax revenue is on the upswing so we need to keep this stuff in check.

You are correct, that the City Manager is the City Marshal.  A few years ago, the City put all duties of the City Manager under the City Marshal's Office.
I don't have a clue who the "Administrative Supervisor" is.  I did not know of such a position.  I had just always figured that the City Secretary was basically in charge of any other administrative staff.
 
I see the Deputy Marshal around a lot during the daytime.  He was driving a white pickup that had a red/blue lightbar on it.  I have seen a couple of houses in my neighborhood that had VERY tall grass/weeds and the Deputy Marshal worked on getting it taken care of since he does the code enforcement.  I would not think though that we have a very big problem with code violations in town.  I would like to see some kind of statistics on the number of outstanding warrants that the Court has and how many the Deputy Marshal actually clears by collecting fines and/or arrests.
 
As I was going through the budget, I am curious though as to the cell phone stipend for the City Secretary, Court Clerk and Administrative Supervisor.  I would not see the need for them to all get a stipend for use of a cell phone since they do not work out in the field, they only work indoors at City Hall with a possible occasional trip out of town on City business.
 
Also, I am curious what the $9,500 Court expense is for Municipal Building Security when we have the Deputy Marshal that is responsible for Court Security already on payroll.  Maybe it is for alarm monitoring after hours....don't know.
 
I don't go to Council meetings like I should and have probably missed out on a lot of the discussions about the budget line items so I would hate to just assume that they are wasting our money.  I just hope our elected Council monitors it well.
 
I wonder if the Mayor will be donating the profits of having her personal internet tower to the City since I am sure she is only doing it to help the community?   ;D
