Well, I turned off the 'admin' approval process and went back to the automatic e-mail approval, so let's hope the spam issue has subsided and I blocked all the right IP addresses. The admin approval meant that I manually had to enable a new user before they posted. Of course, this slowed down first time access for new users which is somewhat of a nuisance to a user wanting to post immediately. I may also switch the existing captcha process to recaptcha as that seems to be the standard right now.
