Maybe I'm a cynic, but anything that takes cars out of my commute path and increases my property value sure sounds like a good thing to me ... some people oppose it though ... what are your thoughts?

Something needs to be done, there is WAY too much traffic in that area and not enough roads to support all the traffic.

I would rather they just widened 78.  It is ridiculous, just think if/when they were to ever build out all of Grand Heritage.  And open the damn dam road already!!!

I think a bridge might have the potential of bringing in more riff raff the likes of what happen earlier this week.

It's my biggest fear that they would start "widening" 78 without an alternate route in place ... if they start shifting lanes between 205 and Walmart, traffic will get even worse ... and if they dig in the wrong spot and knock the silly little bridge down over the creek, what then? commute to Plano via Rockwall or Farmersville?  :-[

Right now, Lavon in a tough spot regarding commuting in and out of the area. A few years ago, I was on my way home, when there was a serious accident and they shut down 78. We sat on the highway for almost two hours. Like you pointed out, your only options are to backtrack, make your way to Rockwall and come up 205, or backtrack to 75 in Plano and come over via 380. Either route, your taking the really LONG way home. I opted to wait it out. As much water as they let out of the damn at times, I'm surprised that bridge hasn't washed away :-)

My neighbors say it did wash away once -- the story is different between my 2 "sources" one says it was in the middle of a storm and the lake level exceeded the floodgates, the other says the guy on the floodgates didn't pay attention to his down-stream effect and opened too many at once...  I'd love to hear the real scoop there if anyone has a link or experienced it.

Here is a web site with information regarding the proposed bridges over Lake Lavon (Texas). I don't think this is related to the outer loop thread subject matter. While this isn't a new topic obviously as this is an older thread, there has been some recent activity. While it would help Lavon traffic a bit, especially those that need to get to the Plano side of the world, it sounds like there are plenty of people opposed to the idea.
